The next NHOA CE Meeting is coming up soon, and we have an unusually exciting program planned!!

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord.    The Grappone Center is right off I-93 (take exit 15-W) and attached to the Courtyard by Marriott.

Schedule for the day:
 

7:30 AM - 8 AM  Coffee and pastries

8 AM - Noon - Jay Henry, O.D. will speak about Electronic Health Records, the CMS Incentive Program and PQRS.  What you learn during these four hours could result in you qualifying for THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS of incentive payments from the Federal Government over the next several years!  This lecture program is fully COPE-approved and partly subsidized by your AOA dues dollars, as well as several of our good friends from industry. 

Because of the importance of this information to your practice, we are inviting you to bring your staff to the meeting also.  You may register your staff at 1/2 price ($50 for the four-hour program).  Also, if you want to have your staff stay for lunch you can do that at the reduced rate of $15.  Please check the appropriate boxes on the registration form below.

Here are the program details:

1. EHR Incentive programs and Meaningful Use Update: (2 hours) (COPE # 33283-GO)

This program will provide details of the CMS EHR Incentive Programs including requirements, incentives, penalties, and registration and attestation process. Also, Meaningful Use objectives will be covered in details including requirements, clinical implications, exemptions, and compliance. In addition, practical guides will be given on how core and menu objectives can be achieved.

     ·      To review relevant current EHR federal legislation: HITECH, ARRA, and definitions  

·      To review the EHR Incentive Programs including Medicare and Medicaid programs  

·      Understand Meaningful Use objectives in detail with clinical examples of each objective  

·      Incentive Program Registration and Attestation will be covered in detail  

·      Software certification will be covered including ONC CHPL system  

·      To understand how meaningful use will dictate clinical care as part of the global healthcare system

 

2. Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and e-Prescribing made easy (2 hours) (COPE # 33285-GO

This course will cover how to successfully implement PQRS in your office and its importance in clinical care. It will give detailed examples as well as define a process that can be utilized to become successful at PQRS reporting. You will be provided detailed information on Electronic Prescribing (eRx) of medications in clinical practice, benefits, including the CMS eRx incentive program, free and integrated eRx solutions, with practical applications. You’ll also be exposed to how eRx leads to higher quality patient care and improves the efficiency of your practice while allowing you to become a more truly paperless environment. 

·      To review the History of PQRS  

·      To Understand the Incentive and Penalties of PQRS 

·      To understand PQRS measures and their clinical use 

·      To understand the current changes in PQRS reporting  

·      To understand a process which Optometrists can use to become successful with PQRS 

·      To understand e-prescribing, how to begin utilizing eRx with patient encounters, and current changes  


Noon – 1:30 PM      Lunch and NHOA Business Meeting.  Special reports on NHOA legislative and third-party activities.

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM  The OCT for the Primary Care Optometrist, Alana Santaro OD, Ocular Disease Resident, Manchester VAMC (COPE # pending).

2:30 PM - 4:30 PM  Uveitis – Anterior, Intermediate or Posterior? Matt Garston, OD, COPE # 30548-AS

A brief review of uveitis, diagnosis & treatment pearls is presented, utilizing the speaker's 30+ years of clinical experience. Included will be six cases of anterior uveitis that emphasize aggressive use of topical steroids and three cases of posterior uveitis -all with clinical outcomes. Also discussed is when to get a medical work-up and what tests to order or to suggest be obtained by the patient's internist.

4:30 - 5:30 Dr. Garston's lecture will be "Not Your Average Glaucoma Case (COPE # pending).

Please note that this meeting will include at least one hour of glaucoma-specific education (of the seven needed for TPA/g license renewal).  We plan to offer more glaucoma hours in July and October;  you can get everything you need at the NHOA meetings!

Online registration will close at the end of the day on Tuesday, May 1 - after that, you will have to register on-site, pay a $25 late fee, and take a chance on having a seat and a meal!  So don't risk it - register NOW!
